Dental Checkups & Cleanings for Kids

At your child’s first appointment, we’ll take the time to help them get used to their surroundings and make sure that they feel safe before we start working on their smile. During each regular checkup, we’ll keep an eye out for cavities and gum disease as well as potential problems with your little one’s oral development. Also, we’ll be sure to discuss issues that you as a parent will have to keep an eye out for, such as thumb sucking and other behaviors that could increase the risk of needing orthodontic care later in life.

Dental Sealants

We recommend placing dental sealants between the ages of 5 and 7 to prevent cavities from forming in the molars – the teeth near the back of the mouth that many children have trouble reaching while they’re still learning how to brush. A sealant acts as a shield that prevents the bacteria and debris that cause cavities from settling into the grooves. It hardens in place quickly and can remain on the teeth for many years.

Pulp Therapy

Dental pulp is usually protected by the enamel, but it can still be damaged or infected. If this happens, then your child might suddenly develop dental pain and sensitivity, and in the long run, they could even experience premature tooth loss. Pulp therapy gives us a way to preserve your child’s tooth by getting rid of the infected or damaged portion of the pulp. Afterward, we’ll rebuild the tooth in question with a restoration so that your little one can smile confidently and painlessly again.
